Joe Woodson Cunningham

Joe Woodson Cunningham, 91, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Muskogee. He was born on February 14, 1935, in Artesia, New Mexico, to Russell Haskell and Daisy (Hinds) Cunningham. Joe graduated from Braggs Public Schools and went on to serve his country with honor. He enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1957 in Muskogee and served until his honorable discharge in April of 1959 at Fort Lewis, Washington. In addition to his military service, Joe built a long and dedicated career at Corning Glass in Muskogee, where he worked in maintenance for 38 years before retiring. After retirement, he found joy in traveling and reconnecting with old friends he had not seen for years. Joe was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Muskogee. Joe shared a remarkable life with his beloved wife, Barbara Sue. Their marriage spanned over 64 years until her passing in February of 2021. Together they created a legacy of love and commitment that will be remembered by all who knew them. Joe’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the friendships he cherished. May his life serve as an inspiration to those who knew him. Joe is now reunited with his wife of 64 years, Barbara Sue Cunningham; his parents, Haskell and Daisy Cunningham; sisters, Wilma Lovell, Bertha Beavers, Jean Hays, Barbara Wallace, and Patsy Williams; brothers, Russell Cunningham, Jack Cunningham, Harold Cunningham, and Jerry Cunningham. Those left to cherish Joe’s memory are his sisters, Sue Rogers and Roberta Rogers both of Muskogee; brother, Don Cunningham of Fort Gibson; several nieces and nephews; extended family; and many friends. Visitation with family receiving friends will be 5PM-7PM, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson. A celebration of Joe’s life will be 1PM, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Pastor Kevin Chartney officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee.
